Omg I looooved this! It is tricky enough that you have to really pay attention, but so addictive that you don't see time flying by. Super interesting lore and it was very intuitive to play, with great gamedesign (even though I now there is an updated version now, this one is perfectly playable and satisfying still!). This game is incredible!!! I spent the whole day solving it and it fufilled my expectations. As someone who loves investigative games, this one was perfect for me.
Unless you switched browsers and can switch back, unfortunately, no. The game saves to your temporary internet files like cookies. Something must have either prevented it from saving or cleared those temporary files.
The same thing happened to me 3 months ago, I lost 4 days of progress. I finally revisited the game and completed it in two days. Totally worth it! Such a fantastic game. Just make sure the browser tab remains open all the time and do not "save and quit" the game.

There are some small differences between this version and the version on steam. That's the biggest one, but a walkthrough for the steam version will give you the wrong email for the itchio version and vice versa.

I know this sounds stupid but I've gone down a handful of rabbit holes and have so many notes about random far-off members of the family, and a picture of Elias and Gwyneth, but I cannot seem to find the pictures of the Roottree sisters themselves. am I just dumb? LOL

Absolute masterpiece! I've been dying to find a game that scratches the same itch the way The Return of the Obra Dinn did for me, and this finally did it. I know there's the Golden Idol series (which a lot of people recommend), but it didn't quite give me the challenge I was looking for. So happy I found this!
i just spent 3 hours playing the game and then had to leave for a few minutes, saved and closed the game just to be sure it would not crash or something like that...and now i can not open my saved game but have to start again :(( is there anything i can do to get back to where i was?
Unfortunately not. If this is happening it is likely your browser or some other software blocking cookies. All of the save data is stored in temporary internet files.

Best practice is to copy and paste from the notes instead of treat it like an actual search engine., at least I think so. I am probably an hour and a half in and not very far so maybe Im wrong haha
I'm an amateur genealogist. This game near-PERFECTLY emulates my experiences researching. Replace the library with my state's birth-death-marriage index and the periodicals with Trove and it felt like a gamified research session (this was exactly what I was looking for). I haven't even finished the game (only 15 blood relatives so far) but my thoughts on this game are SO positive I felt the need to comment now.
I'm extremely sad. I spent two days playing this game, multiple hours, was totally obsessed and was almost completely finished, and all of my progress just reset. I have no idea what happened. I probably won't try playing again because the magic is gone lol but this game is amazing, thank you for making it, it scratched an itch I didn't know I needed scratched. Hopefully someday I can play the Steam version.

There have been a few people that have come into the discord asking about this over the past few years and in all of the cases so far it turns out that there was someone they thought locked in but did not.
Look for golden borders around all of the people on the tree. Also, look in the names list (found with a little silhouette icon under the evidence) or just by opening one of the dropdowns of names and you might be able to see a name in there you thought you had right but is not locked in.
Can someone help? I played last week with my cousin's PC with my itch.io account and it was the BEST experience. I think I'm halfway trough the trees but when I log in to my account all my progress are gone and I start from the beginning again :( does my progress only stuck on one device only or is there any way I can load my save in different PC?
I would recommend switching browsers. It's supposed to auto save regularly so you should never lose progress just by closing the game. If it isn't, it means something is preventing it from writing to your cookies.
Damn this was awesome!! Played it over several days and had so much fun :DD I saw the game mentioned as inspiration for several other games so I had to come try it and I'm very glad I did! Also appreciate the honesty of using ai art and hiring an actual artist to redo it, as an artist it means a lot <3
But yeah great story and excellent mystery, did get stuck a few times so the optional magnifying glass hints was appreciated :D Also love the general physical setup and layout of the game, with the family tree including pictures and jobs, and the 3-part search on the computer (and of course the notes feature, my god I ended up writing so much on some pages that the text is tiny sjdkfhkdjg), great game I had a lotta fun!!

I really like this game and want to continue playing, but whenever I get to a certain part (getting the new evidence after placing the first 9 blood relatives), the game seems to get stuck. Even if I save, quit, and reload, it makes me start all over, then gets stuck at the same spot again. Is there a way to fix this or something I'm missing?
I'm really sorry to hear this. What this likely means is either an adblocker, antivirus, browser extension, or some other software is preventing the game from writing to your browser's temp internet history. Perhaps using another browser would work if that's a possibility?

I figured the big secret out before I was halfway through the tree, so filling out the last few spots in the family tree felt like a bit of a drag since it didn't seem important anymore, but it was an enjoyable experience to snoop around like this. Thank you for the game.

I have never played a game in this sort of style and safe to say finishing this mystery was one of the worst things to happen to me because I know I won't find a game exactly like this again. So fun, and so unique! Usually I'm horrible at these sort of games but this game was JUST easy enough that I could complete (over the course of a few days and some brute forcing lol), but hard enough that it felt super rewarding when I locked in family members.
a really unique take on a detective "sleuth it out" game. 10/10!

As dorkfishie said, this game is currently unplayable. You cannot select Rhose roottree in the menu, blocking you from even finishing the tutorial

From the description of the sisters on the web you should be able to find what all three of their careers are. (They do the same thing.)
