just wanted to comment (again) that even though im excited for the incident at galley house and know you currently arent planning on continuing the roottrees, i would love to see the entire {you know who} not dead thing get continued! again, great work! love this sm
i was down to my last 4 and losing my mind. finally had to turn to discord for some answers. clocked the hidden lock even before then and was SO excited to write it all down. getting the game on steam too for even more sleuthing. thanks for the game!
Just want to say I played the full-length version on Steam, plus Roottreemania and loved all of them! Fantastic games and I hope you make many more in this style. Felt like a real gumshoe, along with having a laugh at some of the music made by various Roottrees and wannabes. Also had a few moving big reveals - everything a great story needs. Looking forward to the next game, whatever it is.
This game was amazing! I can't fathom how much thought and time went to make this, but the result was fruitful. I loved every second of it and thanks to the BGMs that kept me in the zone, seriously, everything was perfect. It was like being in one of the movies and finding out the truth via searching the internet like you're really into it. And also, dang, we got pretty rich at the end, lol. Thank you, Developers, for making such a cool game.
hello, i finished the game on steam after i discovered it on here. since i don't know where i can ask, or where you're most active, i am asking here. can we expect a continuation? because the roottreemania's ending made me raise my eyebrow in curiosity.
At the moment we have no plans to continue with the Roottree family. We will be announcing a new project in the next few weeks (I will announce it here and also on our discord, as well as in the mailing list that you can find from the main menu of the Steam version) but it is not anything Roottree related.
That ending was meant to be a bit of a joke as opposed to a real teaser, Iam comfortable saying that if I were to make another family tree game it would be centered around a different group of people.
This game has a ton of potential, but is killed by one simple fact: Manual data entry. Just.. No. You do not need to make the player type things out. Just make the important information highlightable and selectable. Go play Orwell and see how this should be done. No need to force us to try and read your mind, just make the relevant information clickable and not force the player to copy paste huge chunks of information for no reason. If you want that, please make it as a 'ultra difficult' mode.
the steam version has this option (if that's what you're referring to). selecting words can either highlight them (and it puts them directly in your notebook) or you can spidersearch directly without copy pasting
I was confused at one point because in caroline's book she says she's the youngest of her generation so I assumed she was the kid in the free spirits photo but i guess i was probably just interpretting it wrong lol
Sorry to hear that. One thing you could try is to switch browsers. It writes to your cookies, so if it is unable to do so for any reason, the saving will not work.
SOS, the game page keeps refreshing when I play on fullscreen; it doesn't happen immediately, but it forces me to reload the page and go through the intro again, which takes some time for my Chromebook to skip. Could I have some help please?
I apologize, I'm not sure what could be causing this issue. The only thing I can think of is that hitting F5 on your keyboard or some other hotkey in your browser could be refreshing the page.
Amazing game, hooked me from start to end. Beautifully written, suspenseful till the end, and a cracking good information finding puzzle! Definitely lives up to its inspirations. Kudos on the work and thank you for sharing it freely!
The evidence paper with Notable Roottrees is the best place to start. Pay attention to the yellow stars on the tree, because they are associated with that list. You should be able to place all of them (except one, but it should be clear which one when you look them up) just from doing research into them on your computer.
If you need specific hints after that I'd recommend coming to the discord from the menu link. People there are happy to help!
Yes, if you open the settings menu while on the main menu there's an option in the upper right to reset the game. You have to hover over it for a bit, I didn't want people to use it accidentally.
if you don't mind me asking, are you compensated for the Steam version? This is a tremendous amount of work and I don't want someone to guilt you out of it just because you used AI art in the free version.
Although another developer created the Steam version from scratch, I helped with design and feedback during a handoff period (which means the Steam version contains a lot of content that is new to it)
As part of the deal we came to an agreement at the time that both of us are still very happy with.
Thank you for answering! I feel much better about buying and recommending the Steam version now.
While we're on the topic of permissions, I'm planning a conference talk doing some design analysis of the game (among others). However, you might want to talk about it yourself, in which case I can work with you. Let me know if you're interested.
I'm not sure! It depends on what the conference is and I'd have to do. If you'd like for me to answer any questions, I can. I recommend you get in touch with me via the discord link in the game. Myself and Evil Trout are both in there.

for some reason, it won't let me type at all. I've tried everything but nothing will let me type.
I'm not sure what could cause this. Have you tried a different browser by any chance to see if it's a browser issue?

Ooooh, that sounds interesting. Best of luck, we will be looking forward to it.

Rhose's name doesnt appear in the family tree list for me and I dont know how to restart the game from the beginning
You do not need to restart the game from the beginning. It is intentional that the name is not in the list.
Thank you so much
this is truly such an amazing game I loved it!!
I was confused at one point because in caroline's book she says she's the youngest of her generation so I assumed she was the kid in the free spirits photo but i guess i was probably just interpretting it wrong lol
Does anyone know how could I find the other picture of coraline mordern?

It didn't save my progress after hours of playing :(( I was so invested!!!
I'm sorry. One thing you could try would be to switch browsers. If the game isn't saving, its unable to write to your cookies for some reason.
I'm stuck after finding Gwyneth, carl, Brenna, and Elias can someone tell be what to look up next?
