Global Game Jam 2024 is a wrap.

I'm a full time game developer, but on the side I participate in the Global Game Jam every year. I've been doing so for over ten years now.

MOST of the time, I join a small team and we make a small game with a game jam sized scope. Then, I take a few weeks (ok, sometimes a month) to push that game to a "final" version that fixes the inevitable issues and better realizes the ideas that came from our brainstorming session. My game jam games vary wild in quality and content, and that's what's so great about making them. They're also generally of a pretty shallow nature due to the design being based around a 40 hour development time.

Last year's game, The Roottrees are Dead, was a solo project that, as I fleshed out in the time after the jam, became more and more complex.  After the first weekend it quickly ballooned in scope, and took a significant portion of my time and effort over many months.

This year, primarily for the sake of my sanity, I wanted to get back to basics. I joined a small team and we built something incredibly  small and extremely silly. The theme was "Make Me Laugh", but humor is definitely subjective, so whether or not you do will probably vary wildly.

It's now two weekends after the game jam, and I've done the traditional punch-up. There are clearly more levels and mechanics and evolutions that could be done, but I'm not sure the core game at the center of it really requires that. This one works better as a dessert than it would as an entree.

I hope you enjoy!

Love the Cinco-Paus style 'you dont know what it does til you use it' mechanic, gaining mastery over a seemingly inscrutable system is always so satisfying
